Office of the Principal
June, 2016
Dear Parents:
Summer is here! Congratulations on the completion of another academic year, and I wish you a truly enjoyable and fulfilling summer. I wanted to update you on a few important summer events and issues.
FINAL GRADES
Final grades for all students should be available as of June 1st via Edline. Friendly reminder that we do not send home a “hard copy” of your student’s report card.
SUMMER SCHOOL
Any student who has failed any nine-weeks or “quarter” of a semester-long class, or any student who has failed one or more semesters of a year-long class, must attend summer school at De La Salle. Summer school registration is Friday, June 3rd, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm in our lobby. Summer school tuition is $500.00 per course, with a $50.00 registration fee. Details on class times and schedule of classes will be distributed on Friday at registration. Students are not permitted any absences in summer school. Please direct any questions regarding summer school to our Director of Summer School, Mr. Sean Stair ([email protected]).
STUDENT SCHEDULING PROCESSS
Student schedules are typically mailed home in the first week of July. Reminder that all courses and electives that your student selected and the tentative schedule you signed is just that—A TENTATIVE SCHEDULE. Our scheduling team works very hard to make every option “fit” for each student, but some projected schedules are just not feasible. We appreciate your understanding and patience with this process.
SUMMER HOURS AND SCHOOL CALENDAR
Our summer office hours are 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Mondays through Thursdays, and 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on Fridays. We are in the process of finalizing the 2016-17 school calendar, and a tentative version of this calendar is available at www.delasallenola.com. SUMMER READING
Please stress to your child that he/she has two books to read this summer. Every student must read I am Malala, by Malala Yousafzai, our One Book for Justice, as well as his/her assigned summer reading book for English. The summer book assignments are listed on the DLS website, www.delasallenola.com, for each grade level.
UNIFORM INFORMATION
Both Inkas and Ponsetti’s Shoes are offering specials during the summer. Throughout June, Inkas is offering a 10% discount on everything in-store. On June 30th, Inkas is offering a 15% discount on everything in-store from 9:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Ponseti’s Shoes is offering a 10% discount during the entire month of July.
ONLINE BOOKSTORE
When you receive your child’s schedule, please remember to visit www.mbsdirect.net to order his/her books for next year. Although we will provide state textbooks for some subjects, many classes use workbooks and non-state textbooks that must be ordered through MBS. Instructions from MBS for ordering these materials will be sent to you in the July mailing. MBS is offering free shipping from July 24th through July 30th, and we highly recommend you take advantage of this offer.
BUS SERVICE
Once again, De La Salle will be offering complimentary bus service from both the West Bank and the East Bank during the upcoming school year. Sign-up for this service will be posted on our website, www.delasallenola.com, in mid-June, and this on-line form must be completed in order to register for this service. Registration for this service will be “first-come, first-serve.”
We wish you and your family a peaceful and enjoyable summer.
Take care, and may God bless you and yours.
Sincerely,
Paul Kelly, ‘83
Principal
