March Letter from the Principal

De La Salle

Office of the Principal

March, 2016

Dear Parents:

February and Mardi Gras are over, and our third quarter exams are approximately two weeks away.  Many important events are happening this month, and I have highlighted several of these.

SCHOOL-WIDE DAY OF RECONCILIATION

This Friday, March 4th, we will be offering the sacrament of Reconciliation to our entire student body.  Under the direction of our Campus Minister, Mr. Tony Behan, we have arranged for eight priests to be on campus on Friday morning to hear confessions.  We are extremely excited to offer this sacrament to our entire school, and we ask that you please encourage your child to take advantage of this opportunity.

STANDARDIZED TESTING DAY, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 16TH / EARLY DISMISSALS

This day is a mandatory day of school for all 8th-11th graders.  Standardized testing will take place, and these tests are important to both the students and to De La Salle.  The day will start at the normal time (7:40 am), and dismissals will occur as follows:

8th and 9th grades:  10:30 am dismissal (approx.)
10th and 11th grades:  12:00 pm dismissal (approx.)
12th grade:  NO SCHOOL

Please direct any questions to Mrs. Kerri Caruso at [email protected].

THIRD QUARTER EXAMS / EARLY DISMISSALS

Thursday, March 17th:  A and B Period Exams / 11:00 am dismissal
Friday, March 18th:       C and D Period Exams / 11:00 am dismissal

SOPHOMORE PRAYER BREAKFAST, SATURDAY, MARCH 19TH

Friendly reminder that ALL Sophomores are required to attend the Sophomore Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, March 19th, from 9:00 am to 10:30 am.   This is a breakfast for every sophomore and his or her mother (or significant, adult female presence).  Dress is semi-formal for this event:  shirt and tie for males and dresses (or similar semi-formal attire) for females.

DE LA SALLE’S SUCCESSFUL REACCREDITATION

As most of you know, an evaluating committee of nine professional educators visited our campus last week to determine if indeed we are fulfilling our mission to provide a first-rate education to our young people.  The committee was quite impressed with the academic and social climate of our school, the happiness of our students, and the commitment level of our teachers and administrators.  We are pleased to announce that reaccreditation was recommended.

EASTER BREAK / SCHOOL CLOSED

Our Easter Break begins with a 12:00 pm dismissal after our Lenten Prayer Service on Wednesday, March 23rd, and students will return to school on Tuesday, March 29th.

REGISTRATION FOR THE 2016-17 SCHOOL YEAR

Friendly reminder that all returning students must register for the 2016-17 school year with a $475.00 payment on the following dates, according to the first letter of the student’s last name:

A – L last names:     Tuesday, March 29th, 3:00 pm – 6:30 pm in cafeteria
M –Z last names:     Wednesday, March 30th, 3:00 pm – 6:30 pm in cafeteria

FINAL JUNIOR RETREAT, FRIDAY, APRIL 1ST

Our final Junior retreat of the year will again take place on Loyola’s campus.  Any junior who has not yet attended retreat will be participating in this final session.  Information will be sent home with students in the upcoming weeks, and any questions should be directed to Mr. Tony Behan, our Campus Minister, at [email protected]

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Baseball, softball, tennis, and track and field are now in full swing!  Please come out and support the Cavs as they take to the field and the floor!  Also, our boys’ basketball team continues its season with a State Quarterfinal game this Friday night, March 4th, in Baton Rouge.  We wish them the best of luck!

As always, we thank you for entrusting your children to us, and we wish you and yours the blessings of Holy Week and Easter Sunday. May this holy time of year resonate with you and bring you closer to the light of Christ and the grace of God.

Take care, and may God bless you and yours.

Sincerely,

paulsig
