April 7, 2017
Parents:
We have begun the scheduling process for your student for the 2017-18 academic year. Monday, April 10th, your student was handed a listing of his or her tracked classes for next year, as well as a listing of his or her elective choices (electives are available to 9th through 11th graders).
Please visit with your child to discuss his or her elective choices and to review course placement. This is a very tentative and early version of your student’s schedule, and I have included the scheduling timeline moving forward. As you can see, you will be asked to “sign off” on your child’s final schedule near the end of the month.
A few reminders:
- Students are permitted to move “up” in track (i.e., from track 3 to honors) only if they have achieved the grade of A in that subject this year and with subsequent teacher approval.
- Students are not permitted to continue in honors or AP courses if they have achieved a semester grade of D or F in that subject area this year.
- All courses depend on course enrollment numbers and teacher availability, and many scheduled classes may not “fit” into your student’s final schedule (our schedulers work diligently to ensure the best possible schedule for your student).
- Final schedules are mailed home near the end of June; please be sure to read carefully the attached letter in that mailout regarding schedules and timelines.
All questions about tracking should be directed to your student’s current teachers. All questions regarding electives and the scheduling process should be directed to the grade level schedulers listed in the timeline below.
We look forward to working with you and your student to make this process as seamless and transparent as possible.
Thank you, and have a wonderful Easter holiday.
Sincerely,
Paul Kelly
Principal
