DLS SERVICE CLUB’S DRIVE FOR N.O. WOMEN AND CHILDREN’S MISSION DRIVE: February 10th - 21st (2025)

Sudden Impact

  • The next group of sophomores will be attending Sudden Impact this Tuesday, February 11th. If you are scheduled for that date, you should have received an email with reminders.
  • Attending this week are students with names that fall alphabetically from Mabius to Scott and from Delio to Fisher.
  • The last date for Sudden Impact is March 18. Attending on that date are students with names that fall alphabetically from Selico to Young and from Fouchea to Hannie.
  • Sophomores, please let me know if you have any questions about the date you are scheduled to attend.

Junior IWP Meetings

  • Ms. Simmons will be finishing up her meetings with all juniors during IWP. Tacky Christmas Sweater- Regular dress-down day rules apply (jeans or khakis and  tennis shoes), but rather than maroon and white, plan to wear a Christmas sweater. While tackiness is encouraged, sweaters should, of course, be appropriate for a school setting.
  • Juniors are required to attend these meetings. If you normally report to Choir, Band, or Sylvan, you will need to attend this meeting instead on your designated day:
    • Mr. Dunn’s IWP: Tuesday, February 11th
    • All juniors who missed their scheduled meeting: Friday, February 14th

Honor Society Induction

  • We are beginning the process of identifying students who may qualify for induction into one of our honor societies. If you are interested and believe that you may qualify, please feel free to check those qualifications in the student handbook. If you have any questions, please reach out to me or the moderator of the honor society you hope to be a part of.
  • Please note, students must have at least a GPA of 3.25 to be inducted into an honor society, and most societies have additional requirements.
  • That ceremony will be on Thursday, March 20th, and invitations to inductees and current members will go out shortly before the Mardi Gras break.

Service Opportunity: Mud Fest

  • The Louisiana Children’s Museum is planning their annual Mud Fest, a day dedicated to all things outdoor and dirty-related. They are looking for volunteers who will have the opportunity to greet and engage with guests as well as assist with our many mud-based activities.
  • Date: Saturday, April 5; Times: 8:30 am-11:30 am, 11 am-2:30 pm (lunch provided), 2 pm-5:30 pm

Ochsner STAR Summer Scholars Program

  • The Ochsner STAR Program provides qualified high school students, particularly those with limited means and access, a cost-free opportunity to explore the world of healthcare. Through a rigorous, hands-on summer course focusing on science, technology, academics, and research, STAR aims to engage and inspire students to pursue further education and careers in science and medicine.
  • The Ochsner STAR Program will take place at Ochsner Medical Center – New Orleans from June 2-27
  • Program Eligibility:
    • Applicants must be at least 16 years old by the start of the program, June 2nd, 2025.
    • Open to students advancing into 12th grade (graduating seniors are not eligible).
    • There is no minimum grade point average (GPA) or ACT/SAT score.
    • Louisiana residents will be given priority selection for the STAR Program.

Once you have sold them, be sure to turn in your envelope to Coach Kelly. Feel free to ask for another pack to sell!

Students who sell all ten tickets will receive a school holiday leading into our Mardi Gras break.
