December, 2017

Dear Parents:
It is difficult to believe, but we are rapidly approaching the end of our fall semester and the upcoming Christmas holidays!  We hope that you and your family had a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving, and we are looking forward to a strong conclusion to our second nine weeks. There are several upcoming December events of which to take note.

Football Team Headed to the Superdome, early dismissal on Friday, December 8th
Next Friday, December 8th, the De La Salle football team will make its first appearance in the State Championship Game in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and will take on University Lab School of Baton Rouge.  The game will begin at 3:30 pm.

Tickets to the game are $13.00 each; we will be selling tickets, and the Cav Shop will be open selling merchandise, every day next week from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm (except Friday, open 8:00 am to 10:30 am).

Due to the number of student groups that will necessarily leave school early, and in order to give all students and families time to get to the game in a timely fashion, we will be running a short schedule on Friday, the 8th, with an 11:00 am dismissal.

This is nevertheless a mandatory day of school for our students.  Any absenteeism will be handled as per our usual policies.

Second Junior Retreat, Friday, December 1st
Our second group of Juniors will go on retreat on December 1st.  Please keep them in your prayers throughout the weekend.  Please email Mr. Behan at [email protected] if you have any questions regarding your Junior student.

Breakfast with Santa, Saturday, December 2nd
Breakfast with Santa will be on Sat, Dec. 2nd, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm in our lobby.  It will feature a breakfast buffet, children’s crafts, pictures with Santa Claus, and music provided by the Cavalier Band.  Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door.  It will also include a Holiday Boutique (from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm) with shopping by local retailers.

De La Salle Band’s Winter Concert on Wednesday, December 6th
Our band will perform its annual Winter Concert this Wednesday, December 6th, at 6:30 pm in our cafeteria.   Students attend for free, and the adult ticket price is $5.00.  Mr. Duncan Pray, our band director, will lead the band through its performance on this night.

La Troupe de la Salle’s Song of a Man Coming Through, December 13th, 14th, 15th, and 16th
Please come out and support our drama club, La Troupe de la Salle, as La Troupe stages our first production of the year, Song of a Man Coming Through.  Our young men and women have worked diligently in preparing for these performances, and it is an impressive and powerful show.  All performances start at 7:30 pm!

School-wide Mass on Friday, December 8th
Friday, the 8th, we will celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception with a school-wide Mass that morning. Our chaplain, Father Michael Schneller, will say the Mass.

Final Exams, Tuesday, December 19th, and Wednesday, December 20th
Final exams will take place on Tuesday, December 19th, and Wednesday, December 20th.  Exams for blocks C and D will be administered on Tuesday; exams for blocks A and B will be administered on Wednesday.  Dismissal is at 11:00 am on both exam days.

Christmas Holidays, Final Grade Reminders and Return to School
School is closed from December 21st through January 3rd.  Students return to school for a full day of school on Thursday, January 4th.

Please be reminded that final grades are not due from teachers until the first week of January.

Also, please be reminded that we are on a semester policy, and students in semester courses who fail the first OR second quarter must attend summer school.

Updated Addresses, Emails, Mobile Numbers
Parents, please contact our registrar, Mrs. Marilyn D’Antoni, at [email protected] if your essential contact information changes.  Please alert us if you are not receiving information.

Important Reminder
Please be reminded that personal meetings with faculty and administration must be arranged by appointment only.  No administrator or faculty member is mandated to take a meeting from a parent or guardian that has not been pre-arranged.  Thank you for your cooperation with this policy.

Extracurricular Activities
Boys’ and girls’ soccer teams, the wrestling team, and the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams have started their seasons and are representing De La Salle quite well!  Please come out and support the Cavs as they take to the field and the floor.

As always, we thank you for entrusting your children to us, and we look forward to a blessed and peaceful Christmas holiday. Take care, and may God bless you and yours.

Sincerely,

paulsig
